Love Letters From Pronk: Ben Zobrist

Love Letters From Pronk is an ongoing series where Pronk shares his love for somebody connected to the Cubs. Sometimes funny, sometimes weird, Pronk likes to make 100% sure people know that they are loved, and best expresses that through gushing letters. Today's pick: Ben Zobrist

Dear Ben,

I'm very grateful for the four years we had you on the north side. For years prior, we always wanted you to somehow find your way to the Cubs. We were happy that you chose us in free agency. We got a productive hitting Swiss Army Knife of a player, who was a great veteran presence for the team. We were thrilled.

2016 was special with you there. Obviously, there was the big hit in the World Series, as well as many others throughout that year. On the field, you've been great, and the team would not have won it all without you. But that's not what I want to talk about today.

You've been an asset to the Cubs community. The most admirable thing about you is what you do for the fans.

Whether it's signing autographs at the park while rehabbing:

Or signing more autographs in front of your home:

Or when you drove through a snowstorm for a signing and picked up a disabled kid for the meeting of a lifetime:

Or my personal favorite, when you threw your own parade:

You've always been there for the fans, and we are grateful. I've personally heard and seen hundreds of great interaction stories that fans have had with you. It's always extremely positive, and each fan is left much happier after getting to meet you.

You take your job as a role model very seriously. Even when your marriage broke down publicly last year, you maintained a mature edge and didn't give in to the tabloids. You didn't have public meltdowns like so many other celebrities do. You kept your kids close, and put family first. Divorce is terrible, but the way you handled it helped others to stay strong in their own personal challenges. I hope and pray for nothing but the best for you and Julianna, and your kids.

Thank you for being a stand up Christian and baseball player. Four seasons with the Cubs flew by, but I'll always treasure the times we had with you.

XOXO,

Pronk
