Love Letters From Pronk: Casey Sadler

Love Letters From Pronk is an ongoing series where Pronk shares his love for somebody connected to the Cubs. Sometimes funny, sometimes weird, Pronk likes to make 100% sure people know that they are loved, and best expresses that through gushing letters. Today's victim: Cubs pitcher Casey Sadler

Dear Casey,

I am glad you are a Chicago Cub. When you were brought over in the trade, I didn't know who you were. But throughout the offseason, I've gotten to know an appreciate you quite a bit. Mainly because of your great sense of humor, but also because of your down to earth persona.

I appreciate a guy who can make fun of himself. If it's a consolation, I think you are cool enough for Cameo. I also appreciate that you want to do it to encourage young athletes. With the cancellation of the spring baseball season for a lot of student athletes, I know there are some young players who need it!

Casey, you are a fantastic Twitter follow. You post funny and timely jokes and memes, but will come down to earth with some really simply relatable tweets. I really loved your COVID-19 meme thread from two weeks ago. The thing that really made me care was this:

I can appreciate your disappointment. You were on the cusp of achieving a major career milestone, and it was cut off partially because of this pandemic. Yet you remained encouraging towards others. This affected me. On this same day, the kayak race I'd been preparing for over a year was canceled. I was crushed and upset. All that hard work... basically for nothing. Your tweet helped me keep perspective. Yes, there might be bigger things going on than just my personal journey to win a race. I felt that your tweet allowed me to be disappointed in my loss as well, and helped me process what was happening. So thank you for that.

I also appreciate your willingness to wear an oddball number (#65), to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. It's really cool when athletes take these little stands for causes, and recognize that something as small as a uniform number can raise awareness to a great cause.

Casey, I'm a fan. I hope to see you pitch successfully this year, then make the opening day roster next year. You are an underdog worth rooting for!

XOXO

Pronk
