Joc Pederson was a an interesting pickup by the Cubs in the offseason. Looking to save a few bucks while diversifying the skillset of the roster, Pederson became the replacement for Kyle Schwarber. With solid defense and a powerful bat, he's been a welcome addition to this roster. His goofy personality and incredible mustache growth have been a highlight of the season. It's been fun having him in Chicago.
Unfortunately, he has since been traded. I will miss him very much, and continue to root for him down in Atlanta.
Dear Joc,
I am glad you are a Cub. That is an accomplishment. When you came up for the Dodgers in 2015, I didn't care for you. I was unhappy that some 11th rounder could come up and blast 26 longballs. Even though your career .461 OPS against the Cubs didn't make you a Cub killer, I swear you were one of those guys always in the middle of a rally whenever the Dodgers would get on a roll against Chicago. Always smiling and annoying me.
So I wasn't thrilled when you became a Cub. Needless to say, when you had that huge spring training, I was intrigued. Then throughout the year, my appreciation grew. Even though you've slumped at times this year, I've enjoyed watching you play. You've got a great approach at the plate, and play some solid defense. At some point, you'll heat up and put up some solid numbers. For now, you've been able to tread water despite the slumps, so that's been good.
I really do appreciate the fun side. The mustache is fantastic. Whenever the team is doing well and having fun, you are right in the middle of it. There's a certain intangible around you, and I've enjoyed having that be a part of this season. I'm now a Joc Pederson fan. I wish you the best of luck in Atlanta.
